Organizing your data
By completing the previous steps you should have by now integrated your devices into Atman IoT. This means that your devices can forward the collected data to the platform and that your data is stored in Atman IoT’s data bases.
In this step we will create a hierarchic structure for cataloging your data, that will help you navigate through it and gain valuable insights.
#
Understanding hierarchic structures in Atman IoTAtman IoT offers two different levels of hierarchy:
Name | Level | Description |
---|---|---|
Asset Group | Top | A collection of assets |
Asset | Bottom | A collection of devices |
An asset can contain multiple devices measuring different parameters. As an example, an asset can be a photovoltaic plant, a monitored building or a vehicle and every asset belongs to a single asset group.
Also, as in many cases device data is applicable to more that one asset, a device can be associated with multiple assets. Think for example a weather station collecting meteorologic data for a university campus. The data from this device is applicable to the entire campus.
In Atman IoT, every building would be an Asset belonging to the Asset Group “University campus buildings”. Then the device “Weather Station” would be able to be associated with every Asset.

Creating hierarchic structureSo let’s create a hierarchic structure for you IoT application. For that we need to:
- create an Asset Group
- create an Asset
- associate devices with that asset

#
Creating an Asset GroupYou can create an Asset Group by selecting the “Asset Groups” option from the main menu and then selecting the “Add Asset Group” option.
#
Creating an AssetYou can create an Asset Group by selecting the “Asset Groups” option from the main menu, then selecting the Asset Group that you want to add a new Asset to and finally selecting the “Add Asset” option.

Associating devices to an assetTo associate devices with an asset:
- select the “Devices” option on the asset you want to associate devices with
- select the “Add Device” option
- on the pop up titled “Select Data logger”, on the drop down menu, find the the data logger that the device is connected to and select “OK”
- select the serial serial numbers of the devices you want to associate with the asset
